Newspapers in Need

NewsHelp System Now Available for 'Newspapers in Need'

We at NewsHelp realized in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina that community newspapers in the Gulf Coast Region likely were unable to communicate to their readership - either the local community or readers outside the area trying to get updates.

As much of the nation rushed to help people affected by the disaster, we wanted to find a way to help "newspapers in need" as they remain committed to providing vital information in affected regions.

We decided the best way we can help during crises is to offer emergency web publishing services for any community newspaper with a need during time of crisis … be it hurricane, tornado, flood, earthquake or other emergency.

This is not a sales pitch. There are no strings attached. We are deeply rooted in community journalism and we strongly believe in the shared mission of community community journalism.

What is a newspaper in need? If a local publisher concludes the newspaper needs to get emergency information online but does not have the immediate ability to do so, we'll help post the news.

How long will we do this? We'll help as long as the newspaper needs us in a crisis situation.

How would readers find them? Newspapers simply would tell readers to visit this web site (www.newshelp.com) to find their local news. We'll create a special section for each newspaper, and place a clearly defined link to the newspaper's section on our home page.

Cost? Nothing ….. Really!

What's in it for us? This is our way of making a contribution to relief effort anywhere.

What will we do?
1)
Once we create the section (it takes only a minute), we can begin posting information. All the local newspaper needs to do is e-mail information to us. We'll post it. If the local staff wants to learn how to do it themselves, we can quickly train them over the phone.

2) Pictures? Yes. We can handle that, too.

3) Classifieds and advertising? Yes, that's available. It's important for the newspaper to remain economically viable, too.

4) Hours of support? We're flexible to support you.

What do you need to do? Simply spread the word to publishers in need. Dan Shryock can be reached toll-free at 866-472-3322 or this e-mail address: dshryock@oregon.com We're here to help. Please don't hesitate to call.
